He won all the "under-16" events that he had entered. In 1981, at the insistence of skate-photographer Tim Leighton-Boyce, Douglas began entering English Skateboard Association (ESA) contests. Later, the "H-Boyz crew" Douglas helped found would become regulars at Harrow Skate Park. Douglas frequented Harrow from the day it opened, along with Rodga Harvey, John Sablosky and Jeremy Henderson. He began skateboarding at the age of 10 at various skateparks in the city, such as Uxbridge, Skate City, Rolling Thunder skate park, Crystal Palace Vert Ramp, and Harrow Skate Park. The graphics were also often reduced to make finger board keychains.Douglas was born in 1967 in North London. After the deck graphics were approved, I reduced the separations to make films for tees and decals which were also screen printed. Most of the film work was done in-house but I remember doing some stencil cutting at my rental cabin in Silverado Canyon, where I had a homemade light table and took work home on weekends to help meet deadlines. One film positive was created for each screen used to print the board. After making a master negative from this manipulated film positive, I separated the colors by cutting stencils and using a contact frame to make film positives, which registered for printing. Some refining of the line quality and edges was then made to the film positive, using drafting technical pens and India ink, resulting in sharper images for printing purposes. This negative was then used to make a film positive, which would be used to make the board graphics, to avoid any damage to the original drawing Chris had made. Chris drew the original graphics on large sheets of paper, which I shot on a process camera in our darkroom to make a film negative. I worked on the screenprint films for this skateboard and others for Chris Miller while working at Vision Sports, Inc., in Santa Ana, California, from 1988-1991. If you look at it now, it's a tiny little nose, but then it was crazy-looking.” Miller went on to found Adio Footwear and Planet Earth Clothing, two companies that had a huge impact on the skate industry. I loved that board, and we're only talking four or five inches of nose. At first, I didn’t like it aesthetically, but I was the first person to do backside lipslides on vert and I went from a G&S board with basically no nose-think about coming in from a backside lipslide, where you need a little nose to bring yourself in-to the Schmitt shape, and it was a game-changer for me. He came to me and said, “I have an idea for your new shape,” and it was about the mold and all that. But the other side is that Schmitt did do it first. It was going to happen whether Schmitt did it or someone else. It started that trend towards modern boards. As Chris explains in an interview with Ride Channel, “My Schmitt board was famous for being the first board with an upturned nose that was long. Chris Miller turned pro for G&S Skateboards in 1985 but began riding Schmitt boards in 1988. "Schmitt Stix - Chris Miller Model" skateboard deck created by Paul Schmitt.
