Ice spear has an insanely high crit rate and with cold to fire it basically has free ignite damage as well, but since cold to fire can never convert all the cold damage to fire damage, critical hits will inevitably shatter the body making elemental proliferation based burns on it extremely unreliable. Fireball hits plenty hard enough to burn most enemies to death in a single hit and also has the precious chance to ignite mod as its quality bonus which frees up a slot on the link set. Molten shell is extremely strong and probably the hardest hitting spell in the game next to a powered up discharge but it's incredibly unreliable and can't be used in a ton of scenarios. Didn't stop me from making a build that can kill map bosses in literally, frames. Traps were recently buffed but before the buff fire trap had extremely limited uses with its 8 second cooldown. Look at the harder hitting fire spells like fire trap, molten shell and fireball and because of how cold to fire works, ice spear as well. With just the pyromaniac tree the burn is already doing twice the damage as the hit itself, with some modified resistances and shock stacks it can be doing much much more. There's a reason why most fire spells suck and why most every cold spell hits often as opposed to hard and it's because burning damage is really really efficient at doing damage. Tl dr: drunken rant: "Nerf Searing Touch, buff fire spells in it's place" I might have missed some very important argument, and if so I would love to know. Counter arguments are definitely encouraged. I just think the requirement of having to use a 2-handed unique that is the same for all casters of your kind, to be REQUIRED, for you to even make a difference in the expected longevity of the monsters us Wraeclast inhabitants face in this dark and dangerous world. But a 5L Searing Touch isn't even in the league of some insane uniques and that's not the problem i see. If there were no expensive pieces to aim for, there'd be nothing for players to aim/farm for. I can't wait for the release and the new leagues that are soon to come!ĭisclaimer: I am in no way whining over how a very expensive item is the best-in-slot for any given build. Thank you for developing the most fun and addictive game I've played in ages, just view this rant as another suggestion to make it even more diverse, and more importantly, diverse. I mean, even witha 5L Searing Touch at the moment you're way behind Freezing Pulse and Spark Totem users, although that in itself is probably just a testament to the power of those spells rather than the weakness of Fire Spells, but please, make fire casters able to do SOMETHING else other than getting that 5/6L Searing Touch. Make it a considerable tradeoff between the staff and a good wand+shield setup (or dual wand/dagger?) rather than the obvious and monotonous choice that we have at the moment: "5L Searing Touch or gtfo). Buff the fire spells needing it (aka: all of them, apart from possibly fire trap) and in turn nerf The Searing Touch. So what do I even want with this rant? Well it's simple. And for Lightning it's even more ridiculous since there is no unique whatsoever to add to the effectiveness of lightning spells. In short, this fact means that for any fire spells to be balanced correctly, they will outright SUCK SUCK SUCK withouth this rather expensive gear piece, and you're giving up the survivability of a shield as well! For Cold casters, you dont HAVE to use Taryn's Shiver, since you can just get a good caster wand and get 1-2k extra ES from that shield of yours. Oh, so a multiple-exalt elemental specific unique TWO HANDER is best-in-slot for one of the three elements. Any skill in the game has to be balanced towards the best way possible to use it, and for fire spells, this has become, with no close contenders at all, a 5/6L Searing Touch. It is a huge problem, outright, in my very very honest opinion. But so good that it makes any fire build not using The Searing Touch non-viable? This is detrimental to the game. ![]() ![]() It SHOULD be good, it's a bannerman of sorts. +2 to fire, 80ish% fire spell damage and 70% burning damage. ![]() So, Searing Touch is good, mrite? Of course it is.
